McKay Medical Respite Clinic is a 50-bed medical respite clinic for homeless. This project is overseen by two non-profit organizations: Alameda Point Collaborative, whose mission helps vulnerable individuals and families find a way out of homelessness, and Mercy Housing.

The landscape design is guiding the vision for a holistic campus, with Mantle serving as the prime consultant for the site work. In developing the program, the team started with a “feelings map” which served as an emotive guide for Trauma Informed Design. The site includes spaces for passive gathering as well as spaces for group classes and recreation. The landscape is designed to provide sanctuary for the patients with its zen gardens and circuit pathways, but still maintains an expression of liveliness and fun through brightly colored plant palettes and vibrant, inviting furnishings.
