PROCESS
Our approach is always rooted in collaboration, our design grounded to a strategic and poetic idea. We fuse this with a sculptural exploration of form and shape.
Diagrammatic analysis, quick sketches that pare down and highlight the dependence, correlation and relationships within a site, magnify how surrounding buildings, structures, negative and positive spaces, interplay with one another. These exercises spark a series of formal opportunities that structurally underpin subsequent design work.
Augmenting these spatial exercises are studies that identify connections, circulation patterns, and natural opportunities for placemaking, as well as conversations that uncover the stories and histories that, once woven into a site’s design vernacular, make it authentic.
With each new discovery, whether cultural, structural, or ecological we incorporate our findings into a series of options that highlight different scenarios, reflecting the push and pull of competing forces, and spark dialogue. Innovative material selection, design details, resilient engineering, and environmentally sensitive plant palettes further define the solution.
Further in the process, we begin to act as editor, continually refining the visual language and reducing the noise. Inevitably, the complex nature of sites exposes engineering, regulatory or other critical constraints that must be factored into any design solution. In these moments, our team’s flexible mindset, technical acumen and deep experience turns latent challenges into opportunities to elevate the design even further, turning mundane problems into elegant solutions.
Our process is intentionally fluid, we mindfully co-create with our clients, consulting partners, regulatory agencies and with the people that inhabit the site, anticipating issues and working with the project team to design beautiful, ecologically resilient landscape spaces.
