The McKay Wellness Campus is a 3.5 acre campus comprised of 90 convalescent units for the formerly homeless and a 50-bed medical respite clinic for members of our community who are currently unhoused. This project is overseen by Alameda Point Collaborative a non-profit whose mission helps vulnerable individuals and families find a way out of homelessness.

With two buildings being developed by different architecture firms, Mantle provided early master planning to guide a the vision for a holistic campus. In developing the program, the team started with a “feelings map,” which served as an emotive guide for Trauma Informed Design.  A number of courtyards are formed for maximum flexibility for passive gathering, with other designated spaces for group classes and recreation, like basketball and community gardening. The landscape is designed to provide a sanctuary for the tenants and patients with it’s zen gardens and circuit pathways, but still maintains an expression of liveliness and fun through brightly colored plant palettes and vibrant, inviting furnishings.
